TORONTO — Amado Guevara joins Toronto FC today in Los Angeles and arrives with a reputation that goes beyond his ability as an attacking midfielder.
He has had run-ins with referees and coaches alike. Manager Mo Johnston, who coached him in New York in Guevara's previous stint in Major League Soccer, is quick to dismiss any problems he had with him as part of the game in which disagreements frequently arise.
Johnston acquired Guevara on Wednesday from Motagua, a club in his native Honduras, and by giving undisclosed draft picks in 2009 and 2010 to Chivas USA, who held his MLS rights.
Head coach John Carver said yesterday he is not concerned about Guevara's reputation.
