Five Mohawk protesters arrested during clashes with provincial police in eastern Ontario appeared in court Saturday and were ordered to remain in custody.
Three of them are accused of assaulting two officers in Deseronto, west of Kingston, on Friday after police arrested Shawn Brant. Brant helped organize blockades last April and June of a Montreal-to-Toronto CN Rail corridor.
A police cruiser's window was smashed during the incident on the Tyendinaga Mohawk Territory.
Those who appeared in court face various charges, including assaulting police, assault with a weapon and mischief. They were remanded into custody and are to appear again Monday in the same Napanee, Ont., court.
