RCMP needed in Tory election probe: Liberals

OTTAWA – Liberals say the RCMP should launch an investigation into what they call an “Enron-style” accounting system the Conservative Party used during the last election campaign.

“In an attempt to cover up what is increasingly becoming an Enron-style accounting practice … someone attempted to alter a document,” Liberal justice critic Dominic LeBlanc said today, referring to the election financing scandal enveloping the Conservatives.

Enron, once a high-flying energy trader, inflated revenues and earnings and collapsed in a 2001 accounting scandal, which is still considered one the largest in U.S. history.
