Khadr's health in question ahead of war crimes hearing

U.S. NAVAL BASE GUANTANAMO, Cuba - Military doctors say Omar Khadr denied he was feeling ill when they visited him - just hours after the Canadian terror suspect's lawyer won a 24-hour postponement of his court appearance on health grounds.

The contradictory messages raised speculation Wednesday that Khadr, whose case is still in its pretrial phase, had another reason for wanting to avoid his scheduled appearance Thursday morning before a war crimes commission in Guantanamo Bay.

All other detainees who've faced court time have indicated to varying degrees they will boycott the proceedings, but Khadr has so far been the exception, even respecting the custom of standing for the judge as he enters and leaves the courtroom.
