Nathaniel’s owner offers apology

Following four days of public criticism so intense that it caused him to shut down his eatery, the owner of Nathaniel’s Restaurant on Monday apologized for not dealing with employee Stacey Fearnall’s decision to participate in Owen Sound’s Cops for Cancer event before the story hit the news.

In a written statement Dan Hilliard offered his “sincere apologies to Mrs. Fearnall, the Canadian Cancer Society, Cops for Cancer and the public for failing to resolve the issue of Mrs. Fearnall shaving her head for Cops for Cancer prior to Mrs. Fearnall contacting the media.”

The upscale restaurant has been closed since news first broke that Hilliard suggested Fearnall take a leave of absence after shaving her head for cancer research and care. Public outcry was fast and furious as the story quickly touched a nerve on an international level.
