EDMONTON -- As handles go, Quade Forrest Armstrong is just about perfect for a quarterback.
He can, in fact, deliver the football with some oomph on it, and for that the University of Alberta Golden Bears will be thankful this year. He can run a bit, though his gait might be more reminiscent of Forrest Gregg than Forrest Gump. And Quade? Well, the credit for that unique given name goes to his father Dave, a retired school teacher who borrowed it from a buddy at home in Claresholm and put it to good use 22 years ago.
Quade the quarterback is now a fifth-year student and second-year starter at the U of A, also his dad's alma mater. With both parents in attendance at Foote Field on Saturday, Quade and the Bears opened this crucial Canadian Interuniversity Sport season with a 25-13 win over Simon Fraser. Quade was clutch when it counted most, completing 16 of 32 attempts for 213 yards, two touchdowns and two picks.
