Top Ethiopian pop star jailed 6 years for hit and run

Ethiopian pop star Teddy Afro has been found guilty of manslaughter and sentenced to six years in jail for running a homeless man down in his BMW, not reporting the incident, and driving without a licence.

The 31-year-old singer, whose real name is Tewodros Kassahun, was also fined $1,800 US.

There was some confusion about which night the homeless man, Degu Yibelte, 18, was killed in the incident late last year in Addis Ababa. On the first date, Afro had an alibi — he was out of the country. On the second date, he said he'd been out with friends.
